Despite clouds of uncertainty and daunting fears stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, the GSMA once again showed determination, having successfully concluded an industry mega-event, the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2022, in Barcelona, Spain.
GSMA’s confidence and success in planning managed to safely attract over 1,900 exhibitors and more than 61,000 onsite attendees to the tech industry’s largest “holy pilgrimage” during this difficult time in human history.
Key players in digital technology and telco, including vendors, communications service providers (CSPs), content providers, and cloud providers, considered the pandemic to be at an endemic stage.
They were fully energized to exhibit and display their latest innovations, networking devices, and digital technology solutions and interventions. Therefore, it holds true that COVID-19 cemented the true value of telcos’ connectivity services.
As the leader of Omdia’s service provider switching and routing analyst team, I was pleased to see that most of my IP network predictions and expectations—penned in my last market analysis and opinion piece, before MWC kicked off—were correct and topped the agenda for industry technologists’ discussions and presentations.
Having engaged with six of the telco industry’s Tier 1 IP routing and switching vendors about their innovative IP network solutions and exhibits, below is my wrap-up (from a technology analyst’s perspective).
