Enterprise adoption of 5G and artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML) technologies is taking off globally, with enterprises moving beyond proof of concept (PoC) and piloting to actual deployments.
Many enterprises believe that these technologies can enhance competitiveness and operational effectiveness. This ongoing digital transformation and hyper-competitive global environment have led to a greater appreciation of emerging technologies by enterprises, with many willing to experiment and be early adopters to achieve their key corporate and digital goals. Many are also engaging with external partners for assistance.
Budgets for AI/ML and 5G services are increasing globally and aspirations are moving from tactical goals (i.e., cost savings) to more strategic ones (e.g., driving innovation and delivering competitive insights). This is a clear reflection of the maturing state of the market and the emergence of a more sophisticated buyer. This will always trigger larger IT spending, especially services required to integrate these technologies to legacy platforms.
The evolving aspirations of enterprises will raise the bar for service providers (SPs). Enterprises will now challenge their partners to deliver on a broader set of goals and objectives. SPs, including systems integrators (SIs) and telcos, are looking to take advantage of vast opportunities in 5G and AI/ML-based enterprise services and need to understand enterprises’ digital priorities and barriers to adoption, while also showcasing vertical expertise, quick turnaround, and flexible service-level agreements (SLAs).
Integration and managed services are some of the key services opportunities arising, especially since these technologies need to be integrated with legacy systems.
Omdia surveyed 980 technology decision makers globally. Respondents had to be information and communications technology (ICT) decision makers or play a significant role in specifying and influencing ICT purchasing in their organizations. This report pertains to results on global enterprises’ adoption plans for 5G and AI/ML services.
