The signs of digital adoption are increasingly ubiquitous across Asia Pacific. In this report, we’ve gathered insight from our team of highly experienced specialists to share current trends and forecasts for the APAC region.
The signs of digital adoption are increasingly ubiquitous across Asia Pacific. The region is the birth place for super apps (e.g. WeChat, Grab) and leads the world in mobile payment, messaging and eCommerce. Covid-19 accelerated the pace of digitalization for businesses and consumers re-casting the future of many industries and delivering the next leg of growth for all technology providers in the ecosystem.
Asia Tech x Singapore (ATxSG) will take place at the end of May 2022 amidst another bout of global uncertainty: war in Ukraine continues into its third month, intensifying supply chain challenges globally especially in commodities. Continued Covid restrictions in China persists, dampening global demand with factory shutdowns disrupting global manufacturing.
Rapidly rising interest rates to curb inflation has also added to economic uncertainty. Nevertheless, Omdia believes that Asian businesses interest in investing in technologies will remain largely undiminished as most now view technology as a distinct competitive advantage.
Our surveys have shown that innovation is now the top corporate objective for 2022/23 and business leaders believe that technology will underpin the next iteration of product and service innovation
In this report, we’ve gathered insight from our team of highly experienced specialists to share what you can expect from ATxSG 2022. Omdia’s team of AI experts and analysts will also be participating in AI Summit Singapore which will taking place as a key pillar of ATxSG 2022. The event will provide a fantastic venue for industry leaders to discuss how AI is changing a wide of range of industries and delivering real value to their businesses.
There will be several dominant themes at ATxSG. Cyber security concerns and awareness will dominate the CxO agenda in 2022/23. A heightened state of vulnerability of digitized businesses, more frequent and sophisticated cyber-attacks are made worse by skills shortages. We expect a massive battle for talent in cyber security and risk throughout the entire IT services ecosystem. Demand for professional and managed security services will grow. Especially capabilities that address hybrid cloud, leveraging platform-based capabilities (e.g. AI/ML and XDR), industry needs and governance, risk and compliance (GRC)
We also expect the conversations around 5G to continue in 2022/23 with telcos across the region broadening their 5G coverage and more enterprise solutions being curated by the expanding 5G tech ecosystem. Pilots will turn into actual deployments with 5G enterprise solutions being rolled out will be increasingly verticalized with meaning business impact on industries. We expects tech providers to strengthen their ecosystem and partnerships around 5G and set up centers of excellence to incubate new solutions. This is definitely a space to watch over the next few years
"Growth and investment in AI is also surging. According to an Omdia survey, 71% of enterprises are “confident” or “very confident” that AI will deliver positive results in the next 12–24 months."
As a result, early adopters are deepening their investment in the technology while fast followers are now dedicating considerable resources to catchup. At AI Summit, our team will be guiding discussions and providing perspective on this growth and how organizations throughout APAC and world are operationalizing and scaling AI throughout their business.
We also expect conversations around technological advancements in areas such as quantum computing, which is evolving from the research laboratory to the cusp of mainstream business use. However, many industries are still trying to understand how quantum computing should be used, what difficult business problems it can solve and where these solutions will provide a competitive advantage over traditional compute architecture. Discussion on these questions, which are critical to next stage of growth of quantum, will be a part of the AI Summit.
Cloud has been dominant theme for the past few years but the conversations and goals have evolved. Expect industrial and core applications to continue slow and steady migration into the hybrid cloud. This is highly complex and challenging for enterprises as this requires a tight application and business process integration, supported by a strong service management layer, a challenge across remaining traditional data centers, SaaS, public cloud and virtual private environments. Edge will be another highly anticipated service with many businesses realizing the benefits of moving data and applications closer to the edge.
Digitalization will not be complete without network transformation. Enterprises will continue to invest heavily in upgrading networks to be highly virtualized and cloud ready for the next wave of digital transformation. We also expect a lot of conversations around the evolving Metaverse space with everyone player trying to find its role in this area. There will also be many discussions around ESG issues and challenges and the role of technology
Our analysts will be at ATxSG and the AI Summit in force, along with editors from our sister publications AI Business, Light Reading and Telecoms.com.
All sessions highlighted in this document are time stamped SNST. We look forward to seeing you there and engage in many discussions around technologies.
