Key success factor is data availability, accessibility and data management capacity and tools
Motion controls - modularization and miniaturization are key
The industrial Communication market is growing with the CAGR2020-2025 of 12.5%. The growth is driven by the digitalization of the industry and ongoing IT-OT convergence. Digitalization will support industry’s demand for production efficiency increase, flexibility, and sustainability target fulfillment. At the same time, it requires new techniques of data acquisition, analytics and integration, safety and security across different industrial systems.
Approaches which are targeting interoperability of industrial systems like OPC UA, Namur or OPAF are gaining importance. Share of the cloud protocols is growing and facilitates offloading traffic on the factory floor and implementation of advanced analytics.
Ethernet based communication technologies are increasingly being adopted for industrial applications and devices, enabling integration with IT. Both Ethernet and interoperability technologies are reaching the field level with APL and SPE and OPC UA FX initiative, enabling control and collection of field level data.
Real-time determinism remains an important requirement of industrial connectivity. The enablers here are, apart from the fieldbus protocols, Industrial Ethernet protocols like Profinet IRT or EtherCAT. Another future enabler of real-time determinism across all communication layers is TSN technology. While standardization of the TSN technology for industrial automation applications is still ongoing and Omdia does not expect it to be finalized until 2024, proprietary TSN versions like TSN over Profinet or CC-Link TSN IE has been implemented in devices and will be shown at Hannover Messe 2022.
Industrial 5G is still in the early stage of development and deployment, but will have a strong presence at the Hannover Messe, with ACIA, Qualcomm, Fraunhofer showing technology news and use cases.
