James Towle, Director, New Business Models, Jaguar Land Rover
Jaguar Land Rover’s Director, New Business Models explains to the Informa Tech Automotive Group that a hot topic in the automotive sector currently is services that add revenue and long-term value.
Since he was appointed to the role at the start of 2019, James Towle has been responsible for the definition and go to market of new services, features and offerings that will enhance the customer ownership experience. This includes new connected customer offerings including subscriptions and enhanced digital services, as well as electrification and mobility products.
Speaking at AutoTech: Europe this November, Towle will be taking to the stage to discuss those revenue-generating services. During his Panel Discussion ‘The Marketability of Subscription Services’, topics for debate include post-purchase payments, on-demand services, and the future potential of OTAs.
Towle will also be looking to parallel industries, such as gaming, to understand the potential for such services in automotive. As he explained to our European Advisory Board, Velocity Black is a great example of a product or service from outside of the automotive industry that he has taken inspiration from. Velocity Black provides exclusive travel with the use of AI.
It is this use of AI and data, Towle went on to explain, that OEMs can build a more strategic business through shared learnings with a third party.
In 2013, James was appointed to his first executive role in the position of Global Business Director responsible for Range Rover projects. He then became International Projects Director covering Jaguar Land Rover’s expansion projects globally. James was appointed as Global Product Strategy Director in 2016 where he was responsible for the definition of JLR’s Product Strategy and the planning of programmes in early phases of delivery, while retaining global responsibilities for business expansion.
